3:40 AM...Time to go to work

This is Mike Diamond a.k.a. Mike D from the Beastie Boys. He often did some very confusing things on stage and in the Beastie Boys' music videos. None of those things were nearly as confusing as what my Mike D use to do. My Mike D is none other than Mike Dunn. My dad. I started calling him Mike D when I was in junior high. It kinda stuck. All my friends and family still call him Mike D. Anyway, Mike D did the strangest thing in the world years ago when I was a kid. It was absolutely confusing and crazy to us, but it made all the sense in the world to him. He use to set the time on his bedside alarm clock 50 minutes ahead. He did this because he figured that it took him 50 minutes to get out of bed, shower, get dressed, and drive to work. Therefore, he would set his alarm for whatever time he wanted to being sitting at his desk. If he wanted to be at work at 6AM, then he would set his alarm for 6AM...which was actually 5:10 AM. It was crazy. No one else in the house ever knew what time it really was when we were in his bedroom. The craziest part of this is that he liked to be to work by 4:30, so he would actually be getting up at 3:40. But, since he didn't like the thought of getting up in the 3s, he came up with this crazy clock system that allowed him to decide when he would be sitting at his desk. It was unbelievable that someone would come up with this crazy system, when there was nothing wrong with the conventional way to set an alarm clock.

I find that many people do the same thing with their household budget. They come up with all sorts of crazy ways to manage their bank accounts. They have great intentions to do the right thing and be responsible, but they actually end of sabotaging their progress. They confuse themselves into feeling good about a less than ideal financial situation, and many times they completely confuse their partner. It is stunningly easy and simple to take control of your monthly cash flow, but it takes discipline. Identify how much you make in the current month, and then offset that against what you spent that month. Don't let anything else get in your way. Don't worry about anything other than the days of that month. If you spent the money, then count it. If you got paid on the 30th of the previous month, then don't count it for the current month. In fact, there is a lot of info to cover here. Just buy my book. Go to www.petetheplanner.com or www.amazon.com search 'pete the planner'. Borders is now carrying my book as well.

Here is the latest WISH-TV clip. I really enjoy doing these TV segments. I hope you enjoy watching them. Enjoy!
