Never Satisfied

I had a few minutes to kill between appointments today so I wandered into the cell phone store. I hadn't looked at Smart Phones in a while, and I was curious to see what was new. Understand please, that my current BlackBerry works just fine, and my Pocket PC Smart Phone that I had three years ago also worked quite fine prior to replacing it. Yet, when I started looking at the new phones I suddenly realized that my current phone is inadequate.
I did the same thing three years ago when I traded in my car for a different car. I did the same thing when I got new brown dress shoes in December. I got a new laptop three years ago to replace my other laptop. I got new headphones for my iPod to replace the headphones that came with my iPod. I use to like going to Outback Steakhouse, and now I only like eating at a premier steak house. I use to drink Bud Light. I use to eat non-organic lettuce.
Am I a snob? Some would argue yes, but I would say that I am American. I would say that is the ugly side of America (insert Linda Tripp joke here). I am the first to admit that the previous two paragraphs are embarrassing. I would also venture a guess to say that you likely have a story much like mine. Whether its the newest in electronics or the trendiest clothes, people today in America are rarely satisfied with what they have. Why isn't your $300 golf club good enough anymore? Why isn't your watch just a watch? Does it still tell time? Then why do you need a new one? Why does Burt Reynolds keep changing toupees? Why does Larry King keep getting remarried?
I seriously have been trying to figure this out for well over a year. I had taken all sorts of notes about in a journal, but then I got a new leather bound journal and forgot where I put the previous journal. Oh, well. I'm American.
