I officially am nominating every teacher for sainthood

I trekked back to the alma mater today to teach four Consumer Economic classes. WOW! I have spoken in front of thousands of people in my life. I have been alone on a stand up stage, and I have gone on stage in comedy shows with no prepared material (improv), but I will tell you that speaking in front of 20 indifferent teenagers was probably one of the hardest things I have ever done. I am just a decade older than these kids, but I felt like father time. I have never felt less hip in my life. I got occasional smiles from the crowd, but mostly straight faces.
The kids were great. They were well behaved and polite, but speaking to a group of kids with 10 days left before summer is a tough situation. My message to the kids was simple: Everything you know about money— you have learned from your parents. Translation: if your parents are terrible at handling money, then you better raise up and take personal responsibility to better yourself. Poor money skills are contagious.
Teachers are fearless. I would encourage any of you to go speak to students at your local high school about any topic. You will immediately appreciate teachers more, and you will immediately feel very uncool. I almost set my head on fire just to get a reaction, but I don't think my health insurance covers self-arson.
