Petey,

You're terribly short sighted on this one. The "western" way of development has proven its self environmentally destructive and reckless with resources that cannot be readily replaced. This is the perfect example of "do as we say, not as we do." Our infrastructure (mistakes) are already in place and we cannot easily change, the future of the developing world is still yet to be determined. There has to be a better way... I'd like to not see millions of cheap gas cars zipping around India if that fate can be avoided. I hear that it was 70 degrees in Indy this week... First week of Jan.? Probably no big deal, let's not worry about that now.

Ok, i'm going with this Nickname Theory you touched on. By your reasoning, which i totally agree with, there are certain nicknames that just shouldn't exist. Bill from William, give me a break. Bob from Robert, you've got to be kidding. And of course there is the infamous nickname associated with my first name that not only has no relation AT ALL, but it doesn't even sound right until said named is at least 40.

nicknames, i don't get it.

I'm not sure what was more disturbing in your blog....

A) Steak n Shake is under crisis; or
B) The Goat Veterinary Medicine book costs $25; or
C) that customers who bought that book also bought "Meat Goat Monthly News"; or
D) There is a need for a monthly news magazine on goat meat and they have news, articles and probably plenty of advertisers.

Pete: I would contend that restaurant's passing on labor costs to the consumer is not strange - but brilliant. If the waitperson is paid $15/hour, they dont care if you get good service or not - or come back or not. In essence, you are hiring them to bring you your meal and coffee and another fork because you dropped yours and act as an agent of yours to the restaurant who is preparing your food. You are hiring them, so you get to decide how much they earn.

Oh...and when you are thinking of who should get tips, remember the person who works 365 days a year -even holidays. Even White Castle closes on Christmas, but the newspaper delivery person will be sure you have your paper EVERY day.
